hooray!
my denise needles came yesterday. essentially, it's a set of different-sized points that attach to various lengths of cords, saving me time (driving around to find a store with the right size and length needle) and money (the set was ~ $50 with shipping and most needles are $6-10 a piece). i also found some beautiful yarn on eBay .. a brand and type that's usually much more expensive. even with shipping, i saved about $10. i ALSO ordered yarn for the very first sweater project.
i wasn't too impressed with the selection of colors but kurt helped me pick out a nice, dark purple that i think i can get away with wearing. now lets just hope we measured me right so it's not too small. too big, i can handle.

Awesome choice for a first sweater project, looking over your other beautiful projects, I'm sure it will work out lovely. Just remember to add as much ease as you think you'll want in it after you take your measurements! Have fun and happy knittin'! Renee

Well, the measurements listed on the pattern sizes is the size of the finished garment, not the size of your body. So if, say, you have a 36" chest and make a 36" sweater, it's going to be skin tight. You add as many inches as you need to have as loose or tight of a sweater as you want, the roominess factor=ease. I think for a slim fit you're supposed to add 2ish, regular fit is 4, then loose I think is 6-8. I might not be right on that so you might want to google for an article. Sometimes the pattern has the ease built in, so I always like to do a little math and divide the number of stitches you're working for the body (back & front) by your stitches per inch and see how many inches that yields. Another way of checking ease is to measure a sweater or sweatshirt you already own that's about as loose as you'd like the actual sweater to be, since different people define "baggy" differently. Armpit-to-armpit is most reliable.
Also, you mentioned Elann--have you been able to access their site recently? I tried a few times in the past week but keep getting some kind of server error. Not sure if it's them or me.

thanks tchem! i think the pattern gives 2" more of ease, but i have a feeling that won't be enough. i'm too busty for only 2" extra. :) as far as elann, i'll bet i check out their site every other day (from both pc and mac) and haven't yet had a problem.. are you having trouble with any other sites? their frames and javascript sometimes get funky, but i haven't seen a server error.
