before i forget
i want to get some fimo with which to make earrings. since i've stretched to a 2 gauge, i've bought a couple different pairs of danglies and tunnels, but would like more and don't want to spend a million dollars. plus, it'll be fun.
a friend of mine used to do this (maybe she still does?) and i bet i could get advice from her.
*edit: nvm, i guess polymer is frowned upon when used in direct contact with skin for periods of time.

As you know, I have been making my earrings and wearing them for over 10 years now. http://www.flickr.com/photos/brookeduckart/4354236195/in/set-72157623304502647
I have read some articles, but have also debunked some as well, so I'd be curious to see the info you came across? Send me links.
I definitely wouldn't recommend polymer for someone still sketching their ears, as I believe that should always be done with more sterile jewelry, but for someone that has fully healed, established, stretched ears, at the size they want - it can save you tons of $$$ plus the excitement and pride of wearing your own art.
If you are still curious about making some - once you reach your desired size, heal up really well - I'd be happy to give you some pointers or bake some with ya some time ;^)
